An Asteroid and a NASA Spacecraft are about to collide.
A NASA spacecraft is about to collide with an asteroid in an effort to prevent the destruction of Earth.
In the solar system, there are certainly more fascinating objects than Dimorphos.
It is a tiny moonlet that revolves around the asteroid Didymos, which has a diameter of only 780 metres (2,490 feet) (2,560 ft).
The Didymos-Dimorphos system, which is situated 11 million kilometres away in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter (6.8 million mi)
However, Dimorphos will be the subject of the majority of the astronomical community's attention on Monday, September 26 at 7:14 p.m. ET.
NASA's DART mission would deliberately strike the moonlette exactly that same moment, travelling at a speed of around 28,200 kph.
