The Lions released wide receiver Maurice Alexander Jr. on Monday. The 31-year-old came back to the NFL for two games to play a different position.

Alexander, a defensive back who was selected in the 2014 draught, had 113 tackles in four seasons with the Rams.

Before taking a two-year break from the NFL, he had brief stints with the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Alexander, who led the USFL in kick-return yards earlier this year, joined the NFL once more.

He was promoted from Detroit's practise squad, and in Weeks 4 and 5, he returned five kickoffs for 129 yards. If Alexander passes waivers, he may return to the practise squad.

Both wide receiver Kalif Raymond and running back Justin Jackson have returned kicks and punts for the Lions this year.
